We’ve already talked about some of the benefits of coconut oil in our last article and how it can transform your skin. Today we’re going to look at coconut oil uses for hair. As a rich source of vitamin E and K, coconut oil can improve the overall health of the scalp and hair follicles. This makes it effective at stimulating growth, reducing hair loss and repairing and conditioning dry or damaged hair.

How to use coconut oil on your hair
Coconut oil can be applied directly to your hair. You can use it as a conditioner to keep your hair looking smooth and shiny. Just soften your desired amount of coconut oil between your hands so that it’s nice and pliable before gently rubbing it into your hair. How much you use will depend on the thickness, length and condition of your hair. The best coconut oil for hair is organic, virgin coconut oil which has been responsibly sourced and produced to a higher standard for a more natural product.
The best way to use coconut oil as a conditioner is to massage it into your scalp and through the lengths of your hair before you go to bed at night and wash it out with shampoo in the morning. This gives the coconut oil plenty of time to penetrate the hair follicles and work to repair damaged hair for maximum benefit.
Conditioner

After you’ve shampooed your hair you shouldn’t need to use conditioner afterwards, unless your hair is very dry. If you find that your hair feels greasy after this, you can either use two coats of shampoo while washing it out or just apply the coconut oil to the ends of your hair, leaving out the scalp.
This is a great way to use coconut oil for hair loss as it stimulates the hair follicles and improves the overall health of the scalp to replace any lost moisture. A healthy scalp that’s abundant in natural oils will prevent ongoing hair loss and encourage growth.
Leave in conditioner
To tame frizzy and unruly hair, take a very small amount of coconut oil and melt it between your hands for a couple of seconds. Smooth it through the ends of your hair, paying particular attention to split ends. If you start off with a thumbnail sized helping of coconut oil, this will ensure you don’t use too much and end up with greasy hair.

Hair mask
To really nourish and treat your hair, try applying a homemade hair mask. All you need is two tablespoons of coconut oil, one avocado and one teaspoon of honey. Gently melt the coconut oil and mash together with the avocado and honey. Use a blender to bind the ingredients together for better consistency. Carefully apply the mixture to your hair and scalp, covering with a shower cap if you have one. Alternatively you could use clingfilm which adds a warming effect.

Avocado is also a great source of hydration for the hair, as well as being packed with antioxidants. It encourages hair growth while keeping the hair healthy and glowing. Honey seals in moisture, working well with both the coconut oil and avocado to make sure the hair retains the benefits from these superfoods.
Anti dandruff remedy
Coconut oil makes for a wonderful natural way to treat dandruff caused by a dry, flaky scalp. Mix one tablespoon of coconut oil with a teaspoon of lemon juice. Apply the mixture to your hair, taking time to massage it into your scalp as this is the main area you want to target. Leave it on for 30 minutes before rinsing thoroughly and washing with it out with shampoo.

Lemon makes for a fantastic cleansing agent given its acidic properties and helps your scalp to get the most out of the nourishing role of coconut oil to heal dandruff.
